MINUTES OF GRADE 3 COLLABORATIVE PLANNING MEETING
WEDNESDAY, 23 NOVEMBER 2011
__
Present: Helen, Lindsay, Mandala,
Rana, Nabeilah, Ghenwah (Arabic and UAE teachers)
Aaron (Music)
Brenda (Art)
Anca (PE)
Aaron felt that his subject does not lend itself to this topic (Inventions). As he has been heavily involved in the present unit (Off to work we go, looking at how we organize ourselves), it was agreed that he would not be as involved in this unit.
Brenda was not sure how she could get on board so we suggested that she look at how painting has developed over time (e.g. rock paintings to modern techniques). She became excited about this and said she had a great lesson in mind, but that she would need assistance in the classroom. The Gr 3 team that they could help her during these lessons.
Anca was not sure either. We suggested that the PE department look at how sport has developed over time (especially how the Olympic Games has developed over the years). The gr 3 teachers felt that we could teach the intro lessons and that the PE teachers could then demonstrate how sport has changed and get the students involved in this way. (Videos of extreme sports to be shown????)
The Arabic staff offered their support in any way possible. It was agreed that Ms Rana (the Arabic teacher who has a classroom in the Gr 3 pod) would be given the same display material as the Gr 3 class teachers so that she can reinforce in Arabic lessons what is being done in the home rooms.
We recognized the need for follow-up meetings throughout the Unit, but it was decided that time constraints do not allow for a formal meeting once a week. We then decided that members of the Gr 3 team would meet individually with the Specialist teachers at regular intervals during the unit and would then report back to the Gr 3 team.
