F3: short term financial goal: business plan for market day products
Possible field trip to a local market to observe real life trading, selling techniques etc or to a supermarket to buy the raw materials/ingredients to create their products
All students will take home a letter asking for 50 dirhams as a business loan which will be re-paid after market day

Discussion:
-New unit HWOO will begin next week to form groups so that the children can be thinking of ideas and do some research over the holiday about their products
-Pre-assessment: roleplay in assembly acted out by teachers to depict a marketplace. Children then answer related questions to show their understanding of the central idea. It was decided by the Grade 3 team that this would take place after week one of the unit had started because they felt the children needed to understand the related vocabulary. The PYPC advised against this as the students will have unpacked the central idea and it will not be a true reflection of their prior knowledge.
-Next week the UOI activities will include a cover puzzle created by Mr Gideon and the unpacking of the central idea.
-Children will be encouraged to visit souks and markets to take photos and get inspiration for their market day over the holidays.
-Reflection on last year's HWOO field trip-it was felt that KIdzania is a suitable place as the children use a currency to take part in activities, work to earn the currency and can barter with each other.
-Provisional date for the market day is 23rd January, Field Trip 6th February.

- G3 will likely be involved in a meeting witht he visiting team - some questions they may ask: where is the inquiry in your current unit? Where have you planned for students to be able to make choices? etc..
- Involve students in developing (a) rubric for this unit?
- Continued to develop HTWW planner: transferred all planning thus far onto planner
- Mapped out weeks of HTWW unit
- Ideas for summative assessment(s): many options/ideas online
- The Scottish accent!

Action:
- Complete planners for units finished up until now (G3 yeam)
- Continue to develop ideas/planner for HTWW (G3 team)

April 24, 2013

Discussion:
- Briefly looked at section 3 in WWAPT and discussed Peggy's recommendations fort he way that we are organizing this section
- Reviewed last years reflection section fro HTWW: CI and LOI remain unchanged and so much of the unit can just be reviewed and improved upon, as opposed to be totally recreated
- Started to go through reflection section
- Possible pre-assessment: Students choose an organism and map it backwards to get an idea of what their understanding of stages of growth are

Action:
- Meet with SSTs (G3 team)
- Continue to review HTWW planner with a view to looking at which tuning in activities can be used

- Broke into two groups: one worked on completing the reflection section of HWOO and the other worked on developing tasks and activities for WWAPT: a very productive session indeed!

- Kidzania field trip: organization to be picked up by G3 team
- Populating inquiry cycle for HWOO: many activities for first four stages developed
- Developed rough outline of criteria for summative assessment task: team to try and share this with the grade at the beginning of the unit
- Discussed ways that data handling could be handled this week
- Discussed showing of G4 Marketplace video as part of 'Tuning in'
- Development of assessment tools: better done earlier than later
- Having finnshed planner for unit #2 meant that the G3 planners submitted to IB contained 2 from this school year (as oppose to one!)
